Structure

Lid-to-base ratio and inserts customizable to your needs

Top-and-bottom structure
Core Structure

Top-and-bottom structure

The top-and-bottom box is formed by a lid (top) and base (bottom) that fit together. Lid height is typically one-third to one-half of base depth, fully covering the product while remaining easy to open. Proper lid-to-base clearance and board thickness determine rigidity and hand feel.

Design Points

Top-and-bottom is a classic premium gift-box structure with visual stability and built-in ceremony. Key design points are lid-to-base proportion and clearance: too tall looks top-heavy; too short offers insufficient protection. Clearance must balance smooth fitting with transit stability; heavy or high-value products can add inner lining or a magnetic catch.

01

Full lid: lid fully covers the base for the best enclosure

02

Short lid: lid is shorter than the base, exposing the base edge for layered visual effect

03

Beveled lid: lid edge is beveled for a more modern look

Customization Tips
  • Standard lid height is 1/3–1/2 of base depth; display packs can use a taller lid
  • Lid-to-base clearance of 1–2 mm is recommended; too loose causes rattle, too tight makes opening difficult
  • Corner wrapping improves rigidity and durability
  • EVA/sponge inserts shaped to the product can be added inside the lid for extra protection

Lid-to-base proportions

Standard ratio: lid height about 1/3 of base depth for visual stability

Tall lid: lid height approaches or exceeds base depth for display-oriented packs

Shallow lid: lower lid height makes product access easier after opening

Board materials

Wrapped greyboard: thick and crisp, preferred for mid-to-high-end gift boxes

Wrapped MDF: higher hardness for heavy or collectible products

Corrugated lamination: cushioning plus rigidity for heavier products

Surface finishes

Matte/gloss lamination: improves abrasion resistance and hand feel

Hot foil stamping: highlights brand logo and premium feel

Embossing/debossing: adds paper texture and visual depth

Insert fixation

EVA insert: precision cutouts, shock and scratch resistant

Sponge/flocking: soft protection for jewelry

Paper/plastic tray: economical and eco-friendly for light products

Sizing

Length and width tailored to product and insert dimensions

Lid-to-base clearance typically 1–2 mm for smooth fitting

Closure and decoration

Direct fit: relies on lid weight — most common

Magnetic catch: improves closure stability for frequent opening

Ribbon/band: adds gift-opening ceremony
